ABOUT THE MAN

COAL TO BRUSH, INK and CAMERA.

The size of your dreams must always exceed your current capacity to achieve them. If your dreams do not scare you then they are not big enough. This quote by Ellen Sirleaf truly justifies the very known cartoonist, illustrator, script-writer and director Mr. HARVINDER MANKKAR.

Cartooning is about deconstruction: you have to tear something down to make a joke. He was interested in creating illustrations and drawing when he was 16 years. He used to draw faced from coal pieces and gradually with time that coal was replaced with the brush and ink.

He sent his first cartoon to Madhu Muskaan which led to the start of his great career. Then his cartoons got published in Lot Pot, Bal Bharti, Champak and many other magazines.

Setting a target in some specific field was not his cup of tea. Getting in every field and excelling there was his game. 'A great script is absolutely essential, perhaps the essential thing for a movie to succeed.' After achieving heights as a cartoonist he went into script-writing. His first show as a script-writer was Mayapuri Ilu Ilu telecasted on ATN TV. Yet again with his talent he wrote many fiction and film based shows which were telecasted on Doordarshan, PTC Punjabi and many more.

There is no one giant step that does it, it's a lot of little steps. The bigger his dreams the more potential he had for achieving them. He believed he could, so he did. With his 3 P's- passion, potential, patients he step by step started living his dreams.

He always motivated himself by the desire to achieve success and not by the desire to beat others. He solely managed the roles of script-writer, dialogue-writer and lyricist. Not only in Bollywood, he showed his talent, hard word and passion in hollywood too. He wrote 1500 ad films, worked as a director and did many live shows and film promotions. He never told anyone his plans, he showed them his results instead. Learning gave him creativity. Creativity led to thoughts. Thoughts provided  knowledge and his knowledge made him great. He illustrated the life history of India's 11th President Dr. Abdul Kalam Ji by the name of ''APS ABDUL KALAM - RAMESHWARAM TO RASHTRAPATI BHAWAN''. It was inaugrated by Abdul Kalam himself.

Great dreams of great dreamers are always transcended. He gave himself no choice but to succeed. He simply maintained his passion for what he did. Successful people are not god-gifted, they just work hard then succeed on purpose. For him, difficulties did not destroy him but helped him to realise his hidden potential and power. His efforts and courage were not enough without purpose and direction. He never believed in taking right decisions, he took decisions and made them right which proves to be the reason behind his success.
